if I buy a DVD, then download the movie via bittorrent, is it illegal?

Got a copyright infringement notice from my ISP on behalf of Warner Bros. for downloading "Inception".

However, I have bought a copy of Inception blu-ray. I was under the impression that I can download a movie of a movie I own/purchased.

PS: Wish I could return Inception, boycotting Warner Bros. movies now. They won't see a dime from me.

Well, how does your ISP know that you've bought the movie? All they see is that you're downloading the movie off the internet, which makes it look like a copyright violation.
