If I buy a phone not officially sold US yet, can I use it?

I'm getting really fed up with Samsung not rolling out updates for all of their phones. When I bought, a smartphone in May, I assumed it would be updated regularly but apparently, even looking online, it shows that Samsung never will roll out an Android update for my phone. So if I buy the Nokia Lumia 800 for Verizon and order it from Europe, will I be able to use it on the US Verizon network?
