if i download from torrent sites what are the risks.?

i understand the legal stipulations but i am more concerned with viruses and I have heard that Windows Vista will report your activity to microsoft and close your computer down.
 
just scan the file once its downloaded,it only takes a few seconds to scan a 700mb file
