If i edit a movie on my mac and burn the finished/edited video on to a dvd.....?

so if i edit a move on a movie on my mac using iMovie and then burn the edited movie onto a dvd and the i put the dvd in a Dell laptop (an older or newer one) will it absolutely read it and be able to play it?

maybe after burning you can change the format
