If I let my son drive my SUV, does he have to insure it? He will be driving it full time, not me (the owner).
 
YOU MUST add him..if not even a simple ticket can trip the insurance to raise rates big time or even get you cancled
 
As long as the car has insurance he is good. If he gets stopped by the police he is covered, but if he gets into a car accident and it is his fault your screwed
 
If he lives under the same roof - he must be listed under your policy. If he lives at another address other than your address - he doesn't need to be added to your policy.
 
He needs to be listed as a driver on the insurance policy. By YOU, the owner.
 
he don't have to insure it. but if it's under your name it will fall back on you if he gets into any accident with it.
