If I was RIP a DVD to my hard drive with compression, would that reduce Quality?

I want to Make a backup copy of my DVD before the scratches get to bad. So will i lose quality if it is compressed to under 4.7gb? Thanks

Quality will depend on how you rip it and what format you rip it into. If you rip it as an ISO or other disk image format, going below 4.7gb would lose quality, however if you encode it as a strait video, getting rid of all your extra content like commentary and the menus and save Just the movie, you can get it down to 1.2gb without quality loss (or as low as 800mb depending on compression)
