Responsible people who breed quality animals and who do health testing and breed to produce sound puppies who fit their breed standards should be breeding.
99% of people do not do this. They breed their pet dogs for the heck of it and contribute to a huge overpopulation problem.

They are irresponsible if they breed their dog to any dog, without doing research on the breed, health certificates, etc.
If they are responsible breeders, they are interested in further advancement of a particular breed, then there is nothing wrong with breeding dogs. However, responsible breeders will not be on YA! looking for mates for their dogs or asking breeding questions - responsible breeders would already know the answers and have mates lined up, as well as buyers for the puppies long before they are even born.

I think the whole, NO BREEDING is stupid too. People CAN breed dogs, but a lot of people judge them and get all mad at the people who do. I agree that breeding should be done responsibly though.

The only way it is acceptable is for someone to breed, two purebreed dogs. That have both been tested, are trained, proper temperment, are show quality, and are registered.
It is innapropriate for people to breed mutts, because there are so many mixed breed dogs in this world, and thousands of healthy dogs die every day.

Yes it does. If the dog is not improving the breed and doesn't have champion bloodlines, and vet approved there is no guarantee that the puppies will be 100% healthy even if both parents are. If people would leave breeding to the PROFESSIONALS then there would be less dogs put to sleep each year. I bet you have never held a dog in your arms and watch it die just because somebody didn't want it and threw it out. I worked at no-kill shelter and we didn't put any animal to sleep unless it was too sick to survive or too aggressive to place in a home. I did however assist my vet who had to go to 2 KILL pounds every week and put down 10 dogs at each pound on average.

No it doesn't..we cross breed working dogs..a litter every second year.. the only thing I worry about is if a person is going to breed make sure you have enough money on hand for emergencies like cesareans and water babies..can get very expensive..and as long as people breed proper crosses I don't see a problem with it..I worry more about mixed instincts with dogs then mixed dogs..we have Great Pyrenees who are guardians and would never cross them with our herding dogs. would make them to unpredictable I think..

If we limited dog breeding to only responsible breeders who showed/worked and did genetic health testing, we'd still have plenty of dogs.. but we wouldnt be euthanizing by the thousands, and we'd have healthier animals.
Breeding a pet dog that is mixed breed, and/or unshown and untested is irresponsible.
Breeding without proper knowledge and funding is also irresponsible.
