...Congress to ban it? The only reason the insurance business exists is because people do not know the future and are afraid of what may happen. If someone figures out how to tell the future (with some kind of technology or something) the insurance business is dead.

Do you think that the insurance companies will send their armies of lobbyists to bribe and influence Congress and make them ban the technology?

What other technologies do you think have been invented but are being suppressed by lobbyists representing old-fashioned businesses that would have died out?

If someone could tell the future, that means the future is predetermined so a better question is so what? That would just mean our lives are meaningless, our free will an illusion and nothing would matter anymore.

This is a silly question. If we knew the future, the insurance companies would be first to use the knowledge. They would then avoid anyone who is going to have a claim.

Everything that will happen belongs to the domain of the uncertain. Live now. Even if you knew the future, that doesn't mean that is the future. Different factors could change the future before the future happens so someone still might want insurance just in case the future really wasn't the future! Confuse you, that's OK. GM already accomplished this back in the 90's. Check out the site below of this movie "Who killed the electric car" Who knows if the cure for cancer or the common cold or other diseases have not been found already. If cures have been found, the billions of dollars for research would dry up from the government and charitable donations. If cures were found, pharmaceutical Corporations would be destroyed. Think of how many people would be left jobless in the research, manufacturing and sales of drugs. Doctors, nurses and hospital personnel in the health care fields and the employees of the health care insurance Corporations. If cures were found for the multitude of diseases. Let alone the poor CEO's that wouldn't take home their $20 million dollar salaries! The economy would crumble!

So you are saying that if I knew for a fact I would need 100,000 plus dollars of heart surgery in the future that I would NOT buy insurance to help cover the cost? Hell if I knew the future and what medical problems I might get I would double my insurance to cover them.

Insurance is a scheme. It protects no one. However, it is mandated by local, state and federal governments. It's against the law to be without it to drive a car, run a business, own a home, etc.......

We pay homeowners, flood, car, truck, equipment, risk, health, compensation, unemployment, and real property insurance. How's that grab your wallet?
