As our Eric Freeman wrote Monday night, “Golden State would certainly be the favorite to win that series in four or five games, but the prospect of a few shootouts should get neutrals excited.” It certainly got one Nuggets partisan amped enough to share his anticipation with Warriors star Kevin Durant as he exited the court after the defeat … and you’re not going to believe this, but the former NBA Most Valuable Player was not as enthused as the fan:

“See you in the playoffs!” the fan says.— Brandyn Binkley (@BinkDogg40) February 14, 2017
“Yeah, we’ll sweep your ass,” replies Durant, who is evidently not a believer in the Gentleman’s Sweep.

Durant led the way for the Warriors with 25 points on 10-for-16 shooting in just under 27 minutes, but that scoring barely mattered on “one of those nights” that saw the best team in the NBA trail for the final 45 minutes, allow 42 points in the first quarter and at no point threaten serious contention. As he and other Warriors, including head coach Steve Kerr, said after the game, the outcome of the third and final meeting between these two clubs (Golden State won the first two) scarcely seemed to be in doubt once a Warriors*squad finishing both a four-games-in-six-nights stretch and a three-game road trip at altitude after an emotional Saturday night triumph in Oklahoma City started seeing Denver fill up the bucket in the early going.
“You get your rhythm and then [Jamal] Murray comes in and hits some stepback 3s, Jameer Nelson rattles some in, Will Barton stepping back and hitting 3s,” Durant said, according to Anthony Slater of the Bay Areas News Group. “Then the crowd’s into it and everyone feels good.”
Including, it seems, the fans … though, if their paths cross again come April and KD gets his way,*not for long.
