If there were snails who could talk, would you be friends with a snail?

Let's say there existed snails who could talk, think and read. Would you mind being friends with one? How would you react if your snail friend told you he/she were a hermaphrodite? Would it creep you out or would you accept it? If your snail friend suggested that you should stop eating snails, would you?
 
I've always went back and forth on this, sometimes I think I would love a snail friend but then again they are so tasty. But I have no real friends which is why I'm on yahoo answers so I'd probably befriend a snail.
