If you have a criminal record, can you move from Canada to the US?

I don't have a criminal record but I know one of these days I'm gonna get caught for possession of marijuana(since I live in Canada most cops don't do anything(maybe give you a stern talking to) but some cops will arrest you), and its a misdemeanor for possession. I also think one of these days I might beat someone up(I have a very short temper), so I'm wondering, how do you move from Canada to the USA if you have a criminal record, can you?
