If you picked up a book with this beginning sentence, would you read it?

Okay, so, if you were in your local book store and opened up a book that began with this opening sentence:

As the water pulled us under, and the ripping cold wrenched us downward, I realized that I loved him.

Would you be interested enough to continue reading it?
Also, what about it catches your attention or doesn't?

The sentence is intriguing. I might continue reading, but, if it turned into a sappy pointless romance with people angsting everywhere, I'd stop reading.
