If you're vegan, and you're invited to a party, is it rude to ask the hostess

to make a vegan dish? I mean, obviously if they're inviting a vegan person to their party they should make something vegan right?
My relatives sometimes hold parties where they invite me but then don't make any vegan dishes...then I end up thinking, why would you invite me to a dinner party if I'll only end up eating nothing?

I would bring my own food but I don't want to disrespect them by implying that their food isn't good enough for me. They're usually the type that kinda get sad if you don't eat anything at their house lol. It's a sticky situation.

Any suggestions?
