I'm English, so this might be a dumb question...?

You know them Western rope headcollars you get... I actually have a few questions:

- How are they different from a normal headcollar, apart from they look rather groovy?

- I read something on here about them hurting the horse if you use them wrong, what was that all about??

- Would you rather use one of them than a normal headcollar? Like, are they better for any reason? Why?

- Can you ride with them, like instead of a bridle? Because.. well there are these right tossers I know who think they're cowboys or summat even though they haven't the first clue and ride English (don't get me started on that particular rant!!) and they're always showing off by riding in these rope headcollars (sorry- 'halters' because obviously that's what we call them now in ENGLAND. Grrrr), with a leadrope tied to the bottom as reins.. Didn't know if that was bad since I'd heard that using them wrong hurts the horse, and that probably classes as using them wrong.

I know I'm being nosey, but the first three questions were purely for curiosity. Thanks so much if any *real* cowboys could help :P
