I'm going hiking and I don't have hiking shoes....what do you suggest I do?

This is going to be my first time hiking and I'm not sure how often I will go after. I have a ton of old basketball shoes that are still in good shape but that's about it....any suggestions?
My friends are saying it's really rocky and I may want hiking shoes but I don't want to get them if I don't have to
 
Anything comfortable! You don't need special "hiking shoes" just NY shoes you feel comfortable walking in for a long period of time
 
Basketball shoes will be fine, they will keep youre ankles in place and have traction.
