I'm going to Glasgow and Aberdeen in March and am nervous about meeting my fiance's family and friends. I'm engaged to the most amazing man who happens to be Scottish. While he finds my little southern American-isms cute, I'm worried I'll offend his family and friends. Is there anything Americans do that just drive UK-ers batty? I like to think I'm not a loud, brash, annoying American, but would love some advice.

As long as you relax, join in with whatever there doing, dont call them scotch and can make a half decent cup of tea then you should be fine.

Remember to take some warm and water proof clothes, it'll still be cold up there in March.

I'm sure you'll be fine - the only thing which I've found to be real difference is the American use of "she" and "he" which is used much more often than in British English - we would tend to use the person's name more, and the over use of the pronoun is seen as a bit derogatory. I know there's an American stereotype of brash and annoying but you don't have to conform to it, and all of the (many) Americans I've met have been no more or less annoying than their British counterparts!

Best of luck meeting in in-laws - it's scary enough when you're from the same country, without the cultural stuff thrown in as well!
