I'm interested in finding out which comet I saw somewhere between 1998-2000.?

It is very important to me that I figure out the name of this comet. My best friend and soul mate passed away in 2005 after suffering with a tragic spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed for 5 years. That means the date of his accident was in 2000. When we saw this comet together it was before his accident, because I clearly remember him walking. That means we saw it sometime in the summer/spring of 2000, 1999, or 1998. I remember it was warm out and we saw it at night. I live in Chicago and I believe the comet was to the south. The thing I remember most about the comet is how bright green it was. When we saw it it was amazing. Now that my friend has passed away, and in only a few days it will be 5 years since his passing, I would like to get some sort of a tattoo or something to commemorate his memory. If someone could please help me figure out what we saw in the night sky together that one night it would mean the world to me.
