im japanese and i can help you here...Theres a number of "japanese items" you can score for her but be warned that the dollar is currently worth zilch so you will get killed by the exchange rate. Heres a short list of possibilities...
-japanese pop culture tshirts that make little or no sense (hey lets go choto, or let's fighting love).
-zany off the wall candy made with fruit youve never heard of before like star fruit or muscat gummy
-stuffed animal of some crazy japanese cartoon charactar that youve never seen on your tv
-things of sentimental value like a japanese framed picture or handmade sake set
-some crazy useless technology that only japanese people like myself would find useful
try not to get anything that you would be able to get back home because you'd be paying almost half the price back home. Japan is super fun but super expensive so shop wisely and don't expect too many people to be able to help you unless you can speak japanese fluently. Otherwise you will just get alot of nodding and giggling which doesn't really help you find a bathroom when you've had one too many sake bombs and chocolates infused with yummy japanese fake strawberries
