when i insert the dvd it brings up WMP and has some things like where the play list is then opens up another window that says "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a problem occurred with digital copyright protection" i swear i used to be able to watch DVDs. is there a way to get around it like another program other than WMP?

Doesn't window comes with dvd player of some sort.

Could try real player. www.real.com or google real player

but when you're installing make sure you select it to be able to play DVDs

I had the exact same issue and it was because of a codec problem. I don't remember which codec pack I downloaded on that specific computer to fix the problem, but the codec pack that I always use personally is the CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack). Check out the link below and see if that doesn't fix your problem.
