Important question about Judaism?

So after lots of study I have decided I want to convert to Judaism. But I want to know if I can attend synagogue without being Jewish. Also do I have to attend synagogue a number of times before I can approach the rabbi about conversion(Orthodox). Or can I approach him the first time I attend, or does it even matter?
