In Cloudy by Simon and Garfunkel, what does "Tolstoy to Tinker Bell" mean?

I feel like it's probably really obvious but I just don't get it.
Also, "Berkeley to Carmel?"
Are they actual places? I know Tolstoy was a writer...?
