In soccer, is this ok to pass in the middle (defending/attacking third)?

Ok, I know the standard rule is that fullbacks should never pass in the middle in their attacking third. However, I am going to draw a diagram when there are exceptions. What do you all think? Is this an exception to pass in the middle? O = Opposing Team X = Attacking Team

X (Has the ball) ---------> Pass X (Receives Ball & kicks to an open midfield)
