In the state of Illinois is it illegal to drive a car without a rear bumper?

I drive a car where the bumper is hanging off on one side. I didn't hit any thing, someone must have hit me for this to happen. I am going to be responsible and take it to a body shop to get an estimate, however I worry that I can not afford it, and hence I ask would it be illegal in the state of Illinois for me to drive a car without a rear bumper.

Go to your home improvement store and buy some zip ties. They are like $1 for a package and you can get them in different sizes. Find clip or connection (screw) holes in your bumper and on your car and zip tie the bumper back into place. These ties can hold the bumper on forever.
