in torrents, does leaving your connection open (seeding) use up internet usage?

i don't want to be selfish, and wouldnt mind being a seed for other torrent downloaders, but does seeding to the torrent community take up internet usage? ie. i don't want the files that i download to cost me double the downloaded megabytes than it needs to.

well ull need to check with ur provider about uploads because atm im with bigpond and uploads are counted as downloads... im not sure about other providers tho but i know they all have different rules on uploading=]
 
It depends on your ISP and your plan.

If they count your upload and you are charged for excess over your allowed limit then yes it will cost you to seed a torrent.
