in twilight, how did james trick bella in meeting him? ?

is it by mimicking renee's voice over the phone (bella's mom) or by putting the phone receiver into the tv/vcr video while playing the part when renee's calling bella's name?

Ha, I thought I was the only one to be confused by this at first. James tricked Bella into meeting him by putting the phone receiver by the tv/vcr and then told Bella that he had her mom. Then Bella went to save her mom and you know the rest. Hope this helps!
