Do you think that stereotyping or making sexist or racist jokes about someone make the issue itself worse or better? For example, saying something like Asians can't drive, or joking about women making sandwiches(haha) make the issue better by making it a lighthearted subject that we can joke about, or prevent people from taking the issue seriously and continue to be an issue?
I don't mean jokes with malicious intent, I mean something that you would say to your friend to tease them(if they wouldn't take offense at that).
