I have Comcast high speed internet. 6 MB connection, but i am really gertting 10 MB which i am very pleased with. I play xbox live and PC online games. I've played on multiple computers on the same connection. Every time we are playing our games it lags on us. I check the modem when the games lag and the orange button for PC activity stops flashing but everything else is still flashing. I called Comcast and they say that there is nothing they can do. I think our internet is just inconsistent. What would be a cause for this problem?

When this happens, enter http://192.168.100.1/ in the address bar of your browser to access the cable modem. Depending on your modem, the username & password will vary, but the default UN/PW can usually be found on-line. Once you are "in" your cable modem, you can look at the logs for all the down-times. Don't mess with any of the other options/tabs. Get a screenshot of this to save for Comcast.

The problem may be the drop to your house, or it may just be that you are exceeding bandwidth for your service - this may vary depending on how many other people use broadband in your area.

Hints on dealing w/ Comcast (I work from home, have Comcast, & depend on them): If you also have digital phone, tell them your phone is also out...this gets them more motivated. If you also have cable TV & the TV is fine, let them know that too - cable internet/digital phone & TV operate on different frequencies, & cable internet is more susceptible to interruption, esp. if the outside hardware is going bad.

I had quite a time convincing them my internet was pooping out on a regular basis, finally they came out & found that the drop to my house was dry-rotted, & replaced it. Haven't had a problem yet.

Oh, & don't tell them know you have a router or wireless network. They'll just blame everything on that, even when it may have nothing to do with "bad hardware on the outside" or a bad cable modem.
