I have to do a paper on the obsession people have with celebrities and why that is. So... if anyone on here is awesome enough to fill this out, I'll be really, REALLY thankful and appreciative. There are no right or wrong answers; I just need your honest opinion, and every opinion counts. :)

Name: (Can be made up, if you want. I just need to have a name for my sources)
1) Do you consider yourself a person who keeps up with and/or finds interest in the lives of celebrities?

2) Do you have, or have had, a favorite celebrity (sports, actress, political, etc.)? What made/makes them so appealing to you, personally?

3) Why do you think certain people obsess over the lives of celebrities?

4) Do you think following the lives of and/or obsessing over a celebrity (or celebrities) is healthy or unhealthy – why or why not?

5) Do you think society, subconsciously or not, is influenced by celebrities/media? Is this a good thing or not?

If you are uncomfortable answering on here, you can send your reply to: [email protected]

I look forward to reading everyone's responses. Thanks!

Name: Reita

1) Yes, I find the lives of celebrities quite challenging and that intrigues me to know more about their lifestyle.

2)Yes, My favourite actress was Hilary Duff. I've watched the majority of the movies she has taken part in. I love the genre of movies that she played in, great storyline, age appropriate and fun!

3)I believe they are fascinated by their lives or perhaps feel closer to fame knowing the latest gossip.

4)I believe it is not healthy as it could lead to major obsession which in turn could lead to depression, and many other health problems.

5)Society indeed is influenced by celebrities/media. Normal people living in todays society are influenced to think things which in fact are not true. For example a major topic - skin bleaching. People are made to think that light skin is the best shade of complexion while dark is not. Celebrities emphasis this point as they are constantly bleaching.

i'll be glad to help you!

My name is Jen (not my real one, of course).
1) I do occasionally, if I hear something on the news about a celeb I know about, but I don't pursue keeping up with them.
2) I have had favorite celebrities, and I still do. They're appealing to me because they are generous with the blessings they've been given (money, fame, etc), they seem to have great personalities and to me they would be great people to know personally - and lastly, the physical attraction, of course!
3) They need someone to look up to, someone they know is going to succeed which gives them a sensation of "if they can do it, I can do it" - or the celebrity is a part of their own inner fantasy one way or another.
4) I think it's very unhealthy because your focus is on a person you will probably never meet, and it's easy to ignore the much more important things in life if you're so wrapped up in a famous person (like, say, the people you know personally like family and friends, those relationships will suffer)
5) I don't think society is as influenced as we think it is, but influenced nonetheless. Celebrity's life stories and scandals affect their career, so that affects Hollywood, and Hollywood is a huge influence on society. For example, the gay community may feel more encouraged to speak out about their sexuality if a gay celebrity does it live on TV.

Name: Jasmin. That's all you need to know, lol.
1. Only the celebrities I like/look up to. I'm not obsessed or anything, though.
2. I can't pick.
3. Because some people feel like they need someone to look up to, so they try to do everything like that celebrity and become way too involved with everything they do.
4. I think it can be both, depending on the level you're at. I "follow" some celebrities I like, but when you're literally obsessing it's unhealthy.
5. Yes. I think it can be a good thing, when people are influenced by good/admirable celebrities. When they're influenced by celebrities who make terrible decisions and are bad influences, it's not a good thing.
