My family and I have 7 acres of land, and have been interested in adopting alpacas from a local alpaca farm for a long time. I have a couple questions!!
1. Is it okay just to have 2 alpacas or do they need to be in larger groups? Would 3 be okay?
2. Is 1.5 acres of pasture enough for 2 or 3 alpacas? That is the size of our backyard, which is the part that I would most preferably wanna put them in.
3. I've read that a 3 wall 10x10 shelter is enough for them?? What about in Pennsylvania when is gets really cold in the winter? How big would an enclosed shelter (for nights, open during day) need to be??
4. If I were to buy an enclosed barn for them and put them in there in night, would it be okay for their fence to be basic solid 5 foot PVC fencing?? The worst predator we have around here is a fox or raccoon. This fence would be an addition to our bar PVC 4 foot fencing all around our 7 acres.
Please answer!!! I am really interested in getting these alpacas.
