Internet goes out when phone is picked up?

I don't have DSL, I have Verizon FiOS. Whenever the land-line phone answers a call the internet doesn't work. Cell phones don't cause a problem though. When I "diagnosed the problem" it said "Windows cannot connect because it did not receive a response from router" or something to that extent. Is there a way to fix this (they are cordless phones)
I don't have dial up either, I thought DSL and dial up were synonymous, I'm not very computer savy =[

The best way to fix it is to get another land line for the computer.
