I have to write a 4 minute speech that involves me bringing in 3 objects.
Each object has to have a story about me, and the final one has to be a funny or light natured one & im far from funny, so suggestions on that is asked for :)
The first object will involve something with travel because i love it and the second will be about my love for large and busy cities.
My instructor wants me to organize it in an essay format, like intro/thesis,body,conclusion and im wondering, is this a way that people really talk and ive just never noticed? This is hard to do for me not only because of writing it but also because im super shy!!

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated :) And anything needing clarification just let me know.

Thank You in Advance!

To help you do good in speeches don't think of what people think about you. They have no idea that your shy.Be as much confident as you can prepare what you will say.Practice your speech to friends or to yourself.I though it was hard doing speeches because i was a little shy I was just thinking about the negative. When everyone sees you do the speech they will be like "man this person is confident". No need to worry about what people think that helps you not be shy. Good luck with your speech!

ooo thats a hard one! i feel like bringing up the fact that you are shy could be funny if the right object is brought in...like a rock? becuase people who are shy "hide under rocks" i would laugh at that at least. when you bring up your shyness you have a lot to talk about since its a speech class and maybe your professor will even go a little easy on you. but good luck!

As far as being funny or light natured, find something that has a connection to who you are or something you enjoyed... maybe a an old stuffed animal, or a fishing lure to represent the summer your grandpa taught you to fish. And then go in and frankly talk about something that you may be a little embarrassed about... I know that doesn't make sense but it will really help you with your other speeches that you have to do later in the year.
I had to do something similar and so I took in my old ratted up baby blanket (that I carried every where with me till Kindergarten and slept with until I was 13) and I talked about it as if it was a living thing, like a pet or something. The class loved it, and little did they know having it with me made me feel a whole lot more comfortable. I'm really shy too so I'm sure that I was red as a beet, but everyone loved it, and I even ended up joining the speech team. Oh and I got an A on my presentation.

I don't really know what your asking, but I'll try my best here.
And essay has a basic format. It starts with an introduction,
which includes a thesis statement. Next is three body paragraphs,
all which should smoothly move into your different topics, followed
by your conclusion which should wrap up all loose ends and close
your speech.

To put it simply:
1.Intro (including thesis)
2. body paragraph
3. body paragraph
4. body paragraph
5. conclusion

When I'm talking about transcending into your different topics smoothly,
I mean to NOT jump around topics. Don't suddenly bring something up
irrelevant, it will have the audience confused. I'll make an example for you,
if you want, since writing is one of a many passions of mine. (I'm not going to write your essay for you though. I don't know you anyways, so it wouldn't be possible
either way) You could be talking about traveling and whatnot, and then since your
second paragraph is about cities, you could sink into it by saying something like
I've never traveled but these are the places I want to go, blah blah, which are big cities. And then you could slide into the next and start talking about the city a little,
just a few sentences, then say something like I love big cities and explain why. Or you could say you've traveled to a big city before and you loved it, or that you want
to travel to a big city, something like that.

I don't know what your third paragraph will be about, though. So I can't assist you
on that. But bringing up your question, yes, whenever people have speeches or
essays, they use this format. In regular conversation? Not always. Actually, probably
never since conversations can be totally jumpy and whatnot. People can spot something and then started talking about that, so I'd no. But essays and speech wise? Most defiantly yes.

And lastly, your little shy thingy. Don't worry about it. Speak loud, focus on the essay, but look up from your paper. Make eye contact, but if you don't want to
be too embarrassed, just stare right through them. Take calm breaths, clear
your mind, and compose yourself. You'll do fine!

GOOD LUCK! (:
