Introduction to Indie Music?

I'm just discovering the wide, wonderful world of indie music and I'd like to know where to start. Beyond a free Warped Tour 09 sampler, I have no indie music. If it helps, I like a wide variety: Guns n' Roses, to My Chemical Romance, to Lady Gaga, to Jay-Z and just about everything in-between. I'm looking to expand beyond the iTunes top 200.
