Been playing this game for months i have beat the game a while ago and yet even with the same car with all the upgrades others in multiplayer are 10 times faster than me with the same car and same level. Is there something i am not noticing?? How are they able to do that?
I Have bought powerups in the start of the game all of them and still they are gone within 25 seconds or so. Its like they have a higher top speed than i do.
 
They may have bought power ups at the start of the race. Try it. Maybe you'll go as fast as them.
