My dad (an opposer to jailbreaking) is giving me his old 3g (because he got a 4g) and he doesn't mind if I jailbreak/unlock it. I recently read that, if you updated to 3.1.2 (or higher) from Apple (through iTunes) it upgrades your baseband and you have to downgrade it (with something in Cydia such as FuzzyBand Downgrader) before you can unlock it. Is this true? And what are the consequences if I don't?

hi,

If you upgrade your iPhone 3g ( whether it is locked or temporary unlocked) , your iPhone 3g gets locked with your carrier . Better, you can use Remote unlocking method to unlcok your iPhone 3g before upgrading it . Because, it is one of the permanent unlocking solution . after unlocking your iPhone 3g, you can upgrade your iPhone 3g ios . It never gets locked again . You can get it from any of the online vendors like Unlocking4U.com to unlock it .
