Iphone? am i upgrade eligable? Costs?

I would like to upgrade to an iphone. how can i tell if i am upgrade eligible(does my contract have to expire)? i currently have a nokia 6085. my line is an additional line of a family talk plan. i already have unlimited text. if i get an iphone can i just add a data plan to my line? the other lines don't need a data plan. can i get a data plan for just my line only? how much will this cost? do you have to have a data plan to get internet on the iphone?
 
When you get the iphone you have to have the data plan. There's no way around this. It's $30, and it gets added to your line only.
The rest stays the same.
the contract doesn't have to expire, a few months before hand you become eligible.
You can check online through your account and it will tell you, you can also call in and ask for your upgrade date. It is different from your contract date.
