IPhone experts! Help needed with upgrade 4.1 to 4.3 OS?

I have an iPhone 4 running on OS 4.1 with a 2.10.04 baseband. I would like to update it to 4.3 but am afraid of getting errors or having the phone stuck in DFU mode. Any recommendations on how I can safely upgrade my phone? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
 
Why not upgrade to ios 5.0.1? Because as of right now, because of apples new way of updating their devices, you can only upgrade to the most recent firmware being 5.0.1, and you cannot downgrade either. Sorry.
