iphone on t-mobile can't use 3g - only edge?

I just got an iphone and I unlocked it - awesome!

I called t-mobile and told them I had an iphone and wanted internet service, they hooked me up and it works....but i don't have 3g. Am I doing something wrong or will I just be stuck with super slow edge forever??

Under settings I have 3g turned off, because if it is on, the phone looses service and edge

any tricks or fixes. or should i cancel this data plan?
 
Number 1: Did you jailbreak phone?
Number 2: If you did, did you switch off 3G while jailbreak?
Number 3: RESET NETWORK SETTINGS by going into settings

Restore phone firmware and try again ( don't do this unless you're not worried about phone becoming locked again - if network has provided unlock...then all good to go!)
 
iPhones can only use Edge on T-Mobile's network. There is no way to fix it. T-Mobile's 3G service and network are not compatible with iPhone 3G radios. Therefore, even though T-Mobile now offers a 3G network and iPhone is 3G capable, the two can't work together.

Sorry, but edge is all you can access using an iPhone on T-Mo. No way to change it, it's how the iPhone is built.
