Ipod Nano won't work?

I have a 1st generation Ipod Nano. The Ipod won't turn off because none of the buttons are working. The ipod will play in clock radio, but that is it. It charges on the computer as well. I tried restoring the ipod, but that did nothing and since the buttons do not work I can't press the menu button and center button to reset it. If the buttons happened to get a sprinkle of water will that cause them not to work. What should I do to fix it? It has been like this for a few days. Thanks!
