The Irish Medicines Board reported that 1,216 packages of abortion medications were seized by Irish customs agents in 2009, the Irish Times reports. Abortion is illegal in Ireland except in cases where the woman's life and health is in danger. The vast majority of the seized medications -- 1,118 units -- were misoprostol, while 98 units were mifepristone (O'Brien, Irish Times, 10/26).
