Is 2012 a rumor that is just trying to scare people?

I have heard about how scientists came up with the conclusion but other people are making blogs about it and recently I have started to think it is all a big rumor to scare the whole world. I saw the movie and it seems weird how someone would make such a movie. I mean, they probably don't know half the scientific material behind the 2012 business. I believe that the world will eventually end one day but i don't think it will end as drastically and fast as people make it seem. My teacher told our AIG class about the year 2000 thing and I really am kind of scared of the possibility of the world ending like that but i also don't believe that the world will end lke that.
Also I think that that's just where the old Incan and Mayan and other tribes' calenders ended. They were here like ages ago so they probably never knew that the year 1984 would happen...

Yes. The end of the world has been predicted countless times and honestly no one knows what they are talking about. Some people really believe they have evidence but no one really has any. Others just like being the center of attention and making people worry about things. Lots of people like to do that, don't waste your time worrying about it.
 
2012 is going to happen, but all the explosions and stuff that you saw in the movie 2012 won't.
 
nope your going to die a slow and painfull death... while you watch all of your family member's and loved ones suffer
 
The world is not going to end in 2012 so no worries, either 1 of 3 things will happen that year, either nothing will happen, something not worldending but scary, or obama getting re-elected.
 
Think about this logically, now. The sun has been around for over a billion years. Nothing has happened in the past, right?
NASA proved 2012 wrong. Don't be dumb.
Big deal; the Mayan calendar ended in 2012. THERE WAS NO MORE ROOM ON THE ROCK.
People die and get bored. Maybe that's why they didn't finish it.
