Is 50,000 words (180 pages) too short for a book i am writing?

I am writing a book and frankly i am done with it. I have beat the story line to death and extracted every bit of information i can give but it is only 50,000 words which adds up to 180 pages. before i go to a publisher is that too short?

No, not if you submit it to a certain publishing house. The situation varies; some publishing houses don't accept anything under 80, 000 or 100,000, and some publishing houses don't accept anything over 50, 000. Just do some research before you submit, mmkay?

You won't be able to take it to the big NY publishers, but there are many small/independent publishers and ebook publisher that will eagerly accept a good book of that number. Don't pad it up if there's nothing to add, that will ruin it.

50,000 words is long enough for a short novel by most people's standards, especially if it is for young adults or children. To be on the safe side, go to duotrope.com and type the number of words in your search criteria, and you'll find publishers who do specifically publish works of that length. Basically, you shouldn't try to make it longer just to please publishers--if you're story's done, it's done.

50,000 is okay for YA, but not for Adult novels. It's also not okay for YA or Adult sci-fi or fantasy (they tend to be longer).
