Is a 1999 bottle of Brancott vineyards Gisborne Chardonnay to old to drink?

Eh...you can give it a try, but it probably won't be very good. Chardonnay should consumed within 1-3 years of its release date unless it comes from an extremely high-end winery. Most likely you've got a bottle of Chardonnay vinegar.

White wines should be used within the first three years. There are very few that will develop past that.
WS may have given it a good review in 2000, but I doubt that would be the case today.
That's not to say that this Chardonnay may be bad. Uncork it and give it a try. Chardonnay can last for some time. Try it, if not good, you have nothing to lose.

No. It should be great. Here is what Wine Spectator had to say when it was originally reviewed in 2000:

Smooth and round, layering its generous pear and nectarine flavors with spicy, floral overtones. The fruit flavors remain lively and balanced throughout, echo beautifully on the rich finish. Drink now through 2009. 10,000 cases imported. –HS

This bottle made Wine Spectator's Top 100 of the year in 2000 (#88).
