is a snowmobile helmet safe for motorcycle use?

i went to a dealer and bought my helmet for riding. my gf went with me so she could get one too. they had no more female street helmets all they had was the snowmobile helmets so we bought her that. the dealer told me that it was DOT and SNELL approved so it was fine for a motorcycle. its an hjc cl-15 snow http://blog.helmetcity.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/cyclone-2-large-300x293.jpg and upon further inspection of the manual it says its not safe for street use. im so confused. is a snowmobile helmet safe for the street or no? is it possible to change the face shield to make it street safe?
 
If it is DOT approved the it is fine for the street.
 
ya its safe. Motocross/ street bike/snowmobile helmits are all basicaly the same other than styles/looks/name brands. And its now almost impossable to find a helmit that is not dot or snell aproved.
