Is a tethered jailbreak bad for the IPhone?

I have an iphone 4 running IOS 5 and there is only a tethered jailbreak available , is it bad for the iphone in anyway ? like will it slow down , get buggy or crash ?

And it would be great if somebody knows when the untethered jailbreak will come out and share with us
