Seems the AFL has quietly put a huge emphasis on broadening the traditional male dominated player & supporter bases, transitioning those bases to a more Family Friendly base through an accent on both male and female participation at all levels from Auskick & School comps up plus Ladies & Veterans comps. Few if any team sports have been able to provide the platform on which mum & dad and brothers & sisters can can all play the sport and or support each other in the code and at the same time align themselves as AFL Club supports.
BQ. - Surely this approach has to have a much greater impact on an AFL Ladies comp and support for it, particularly with many AFL Clubs now fielding Ladies teams
I have again posted the link to the Participant stat graphs in the 2010 AFL Annual Report which clearly shows growth rates 2005 -2010.
