Is biking good cardio?

So I've got a lot of back and forth about biking. I recently started getting back into fitness and I went into the gym and started running and quickly realized how out of shape and how bad my cardio had gotten. So I was wondering if biking would help me get it back, at least until I feel confident enough to start jogging/running again. Or should I try something like an eliptical? Thanks for the help.
