Is creating ringtones for an iPhone rather than buying them dishonest/illegal?

I have an application called Ringtone Maker Pro (I'm pretty sure I bought it for a dollar) and it allows me to make ringtones out of songs I already have in my music. Is that dishonest or illegal since you can buy ringtones in itunes?
