Is it bad that I express no interest in workplace or even barber shop gossip?

I work around people who like to run their mouth all the time and nothing good comes from them most of the time. I'm surrounded by these types of individuals on a daily basis and they kind of give me a hard time for not participating in their silly games and gossip.

Also, I have this feeling that if I try to find another job I will just end up running into the exact same crap situation I'm in right now. Luckily, my current job allows me to transfer to different locations (provided they let me transfer). If I have to, should I get backup from my union?

You are very wise not to enter into all that trash talk. Nothing good can come from it, and, if they talk about other people, they will evenutally talk about you behind your back. Yes, there will be people like that no matter what job you get. Just keep being professional and let the other people gossip without you. If you get into the middle of it, you will end up with more drama than you bargained for.
