everyones telling me that its the worst way to apply for a job. but i figure they wouldnt post on the internet hiring.... is it bad?

this is true, when you apply for job over the internet nobody read your resume and they apply you ASAP and tell you sorry you are not successful on this time however we keep your application for next suitable position good luck.

Depending on the job, it could be the best way to apply. If you are applying to a large company or corporate position, the internet is a vital part of their business. There is no difference between an emailed cover letter/resume and a printed and mailed one, as long as you format your resume well enough that it will work with most word processor software. The only exception I can think of is applying for a retail position at a small business, in which case you might want to stop by and talk to the owner or manager when you apply.

The people telling you this may have an old fashioned mindset, where internet communications are "impersonal." However, as I have mentioned, there is really nothing more personal about a hard copy of a cover letter/resume, except perhaps your signature on the letter. I saw an OLD episode of Seinfeld where Elaine was completely offended that someone called her on their cell phone, because back then it sent the message that calling her was unimportant so they did it away from home. Times have changed.

Sending a resume over the internet is what you do, if that's an option than take it.

Less than 10% of the job applications sent over the internet are even looked at, let alone called in for an interview or offered a job. This is why everyone is telling you that it's the worst way to apply for a job. Of course, every once in a while, someone does get a job this way, so it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility. Just don't put all of your effort into applying online - if only 10% of internet resumes are read, than you should only be spending 10% of your job search time applying to job postings online. That's my rule of thumb.

The thing is that it is very easy to apply over the internet since internet is a type of service most common in every household. So when the employers open their e-mail every morning, they are bombarded with so many e-mails sent by people like me and you who are just looking for some sort of job. So the employers tend to overlook the applications to make their own job easy. So yea, i would think its not as effective as applying face-to-face!
