Ok guys, I hope you can help me out here.
I really am a nice guy, that's why I need help with this issue. I married an Indian from India (not like cowboys and indians). She has a normal accent, but her parents were born in India and grew up there so they have really thick Apu-like accents, if you know what I mean.
Anyway, I try not to, but every time her mom or dad speak, I burst out laughing. Some time her dad just wanted to talk to me about something as a friend, but I just started laughing uncontrollably, because I was thinking about Apu and stuff.
You could tell very clearly that he was confused and when he realized I was laughing at him, he seemed very sad and upset. In fact, he had just brought popcorn to share with me and he seemed very hurt. Whenever I visit her parents now, they are very polite, but inevitably they will end up becoming very sad and down because I cannot stop laughing.
Any ideas? And why would they speak like that if they know I laugh so much?
